Trains, subways, buses, and their stations fall squarely into that category.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>It is a <strong>serious violation<\/strong>, with fines that <strong>starting at 601 euros<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>The substance is removed.<\/li>\n<li>It is illegal to both consume it and simply carry it, even if it is a small amount and intended for personal use.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"AVE_larga_distancia_Rodalies_y_metro\"><\/span>AVE, long-distance trains, Rodalies, and the subway<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>The rule is the same everywhere: high-speed trains, commuter trains, Rodalies, the subway, or the tram. In addition, smoking\u2014including cigarettes\u2014is prohibited on trains, in the subway, and in covered stations.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Controles_en_estaciones\"><\/span>Checks at stations<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>At large stations, such as <strong>Barcelona Sants<\/strong>, there is a regular police presence and, at times, K-9 units. On high-speed and long-distance trains, luggage is scanned before passengers are allowed onto the platform.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Viajes_en_tren_a_otros_paises\"><\/span>Train Travel to Other Countries<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>If the route crosses a border, the risk is greater.
