Sativa vs. Indica

We have talked a lot in previous articles of our blog about the cannabis plant, its benefits, its compound and its medicinal properties. However, the truth is that this plant is so interesting that we do not find any topic that we do not find appropriate to discuss and report on. So, today we will talk to you about the typologies "sativa" or "indica" and the effects it generates in the organism.

Cannabis is considered a monotypic genus" plant, that is to say that there is only one species in its genus. However, it is commonly spoken of three typologies: sativa, indica and ruderalis that, in reality, are subspecies.

What is going on? In reality, the difference between these three typologies is that each of them has some particular characteristics that make them chosen by growers all over the world. The two most chosen among these growers, as we have mentioned, are sativa and indica.

What is the difference between sativa and indica?

The first thing to know is that, although there are three types, they are actually of the same species. Therefore, they can be crossed without problems, giving rise to a very large number of hybrids with a greater or lesser proportion of one or the other in their genetics.

Climate, cultivation, places of origin and physical appearance

The appropriate question is: how can I physically differentiate one plant from another? If you want to do so, note that the indicas usually have a compact and robust appearance with dense, heavy and aromatic buds. In contrast, the sativas grow at a greater height and when the buds flower they tend to be larger but lighter and less dense when they have dried.

In addition, the flowering time between one plant and the other is different: while the indicas flower in about 45-60 daysthe sativas do so between 60 and 90. It all depends on the climate to which they are subjected

On the other hand, many of the differences between indicas and sativas can be explained by their places of origin and the climates to which they are accustomed.

INDICA: Pakistan, North of India, Tibet, Nepal, etc.

SATIVAThailand, South India, Jamaica and Mexico, etc.

The effects they produce in the organism are perhaps one of the most significant differences between one variety and the other. It is often spoken of "being stoned" of indica or "having the high" of sativa. This is what we mean by a 'state of mind' at the moment after consumption.

For the sake of clarity, the indicas contain more CBD and less THC than sativasThey produce that sensation of "high" to which we have referred. Thus, this type of plants are perfect for relaxed activities that do not require extreme concentration, as they produce relaxation and alter the senses, particularly touch, hearing and taste.

On the other hand, the sativa type plantas we have indicated, produces a sensation of "high" understood as a more energetic, euphoric and creative effect.

In our article, we have only evidenced a small part of what the consumption entails of these plant typologies. However, the profound science of cannabis is immeasurable in comparison to our words, which, although they fit the scientific evidence, can never do so (entirely) with the human evidence.

For this reason, since Roots & Raisers we recommend that, if you want to know, discover and talk extensively about the many properties that this plant has, go to fairs, events and talks where they can help you even more.

One of them is Spannabis, one of the largest cannabis fairs in the world, which will be held in Barcelona from March 11 to 13. Here, exhibitors, professionals and visitors from the sector can exchange opinions, create new contacts and look for potential customers.

You can believe us: if you are a curious person when it comes to the world of cannabis and what you are looking for is to learn about the different properties of this plant, you can't miss it! Spannabis is the best excuse to to make a complete reflection on the status of cannabis today and to delve into the doubts and conflicts that it generates in ordinary citizens.
